AKHNOOR, Mar 24: Some miscreants with the assistance of some locals of Akhnoor town allegedly made land grabbing attempt of the Devisthan of Abrol Biradari at the bank of river Chenab near Jia Pota Ghat in Akhnoor on the intervening night of March 22-23.
The Biradari has lodged a case FIR No. 50/2016 against Ashok Mishra, Naresh Mishra and Raman Mishra sons of Jagan Nath Mishra, residents of Akhnoor town at Akhnoor Police Station. It has been alleged in the FIR that these persons by engaging one Sunil Mishra hailing from UP, managed to break open the locks of the Devisthan/temple of the deity (Sajawati Sheelawanti) and removed the idols and also donation box containing unaccounted cash besides other things and also dug the plinth with the motive to grab the land for raising a restaurant there forcibly.
The members of Abrol Biradari Welfare Committee also claimed that this temple is situated there for the last more than 150 years and now `some land grabbers’ are trying to forcibly snatch this land and hurt the religious sentiments of the Biradari. It may create law and order problem and action under law should be taken against these miscreants under law of the land.
SHO, Akhnoor Pushpinder Singh when contacted said that FIR No. 50/2016 has been registered against the accused persons and they have gone under ground. Police parties have been sent to trace them. He said one of the accused Sunil Mishra, hailing from UP and working for these accused persons has been arrested and revenue record has also been summoned from both the parties. The Mishra party is claiming that the land under question belonged to them as there were `Derian’ of their ancestors. They have asked to produce the record. They have also gone to the court for this land dispute. He said that the cost of this land has gone high due to development of Ghat along river Chenab and it will be very lucrative business of the restaurant is set up there. There seems to be a drama enacted by the accused party just to grab this land. The police has started investigation, the SHO said.
