KATHUA, Mar 28: In order to promote Sports Culture and involved Youth with sports activities at village level, Nehru Yuva Kendra, Kathua organized two day ” District Sports Tournament’ on the theme “No Drugs – No Rash Driving” at Govt. High School, Mela, in which Volleyball, Kabaddi, Athletic events including Long Jump, 100 mtr and 400 mtr race competitions organized.
16 teams participated in Volleyball Competition and in final Upper Mela defeated Lower Mela by ( 25-22, 25-16, 25-20 )and lifted the trophy and a cash prize of Rs 1,500, while the runners-up bagged a cash prize of Rs1,000 and trophy.
In kabaddi, in final lower mela defeated Upper mella by 59: 50 points in sensational match and lifted the trophy with Rs.1500 as cash prize and runner with trophy and Rs.1000 as cash prize.
In 400 meter Race, Amit Kumar, Sachin Sharma and Vimal Sharma stand 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and given Mementoes and Cash prize Rs. 500, 300, 200 respectively
In 100 meter Race, Vimal Sharma, Ganesh Dass Arun Verma stand 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and given Mementoes and Cash prize Rs. 500, 300, 200 respectively
In Long Jump, Arjun Verma, Rajinder Singh & Amuthu stand 1st, 2nd and 3rd respectively and given Mementoes and Cash prize Rs. 500, 300, 200 respectively.
Kuldeep Kumar, MLA. Hiranagar was chief guest on the occasion who presented trophy and cash prizes to the winner teams and players.
In his address he appreciated role of Nehru Yuva Kendra in promotion of Rural Sports and stressed upon the youth to actively participate in sports activities especially Rural Sports.
