UDHAMPUR, Mar 30: As the inhabitants of Manthal and adjoining areas continued their protest against opening of a wine shop, for the 6th consecutive day today, Chief Secretary B R Sharma visited the protesting people and assured necessary action.
On the direction of Governor N N Vohra, the Chief Secretary along with Director General of Police, K Rajendra, met the agitating people and assured that their demand would be positively considered.
However, the agitating people refused to suspend their agitation till closure of the shop and formal Government order for shifting the same from the locality.
The Chief Secretary, along with DGP and other officers, was on way back from Mata Vaishno Devi University where they had gone in connection with the Governor’s visit in the university.
Earlier, local Sarpanch met the Governor at the University and apprised him of the grievance as well as demand of the agitating people of Manthal. After giving a patient hearing to the Sarpanch, Governor directed the Chief Secretary and DGP to personally visit the agitating people and look into their demand.
Pertinent to mention that locals of Manthal are protesting for the last six days. They are demanding closure of newly opened wine shop in the area.
