JAMMU, Sept 14: The women shuttlers of Model Institute of Engineering and Technology (MIET) displayed power, strength, valour and skill to get better of the strong rivals in Government College for Women (GCW) Parade in the summit clash and lifted the title in Inter-Collegiate Badminton (Men & Women) Championship, which concluded at Gymnasium Hall, University of Jammu today.
Meanwhile, the men’s badminton title went to Post Graduate (PG) Department, University of Jammu, which prevailed upon Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua in a close contest by three games to two (3-2).
Earlier, in the women’s section, gutsy Diksha of MIET outplayed gritty Akanksha of GCW Parade in an exciting contest by (21-11, 15-21 and 22-20), while the duo of Diksha and Sanchi of MIET outclassed the pair of Akanksha and Divya of GCW Parade (21-10, 12-21 and 21-15) in a hard fought match.
In the men’s section, PG Department scripted a (3-2) win in a thrilling contest, simply a delight to watch for the spectators. Amit Kumar of PG Department trounced Shubam of GDC Kathua in straight sets by (21-13, 21-15), while Chander Dev of PG lost to Abhishek of GDC Kathua in an exciting contest by (17-21, 17-21). The pair of Amit Kumar and Chander Dev outclassed Shubam-Abhishek duo by (22-20, 21-12), while Amit Jasrotia of PG Department lost to Navdeep of GDC Kathua by (16-21,21-16 and 22-25). In another doubles match, Amit and Anurag trounced Navdeep and Shuvam by (21-16, 24-22).
The matches were officiated by Raju Sharma, Amit Sharma, Pankaj, Charanpreet and Amit Sharma, under the supervision of Vikram Jamwal and Nisha Sharma.
Prof Dhian Singh Bhau, Director Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu was the chief guest on the occasion, while the others present included Suman Lata, Physical Director, GCW Parade, Dr Balwinder Singh, Physical Director, GDC Kathua, Physical Director MIET, Ramesh Sharma, PTI Campus, Dr Brij Baloria, Romesh Mangotra and Sanjeev Jamwal.
