Paras’ knock goes in vain as Akash, Pankaj help Shastri Club to lift title

JAMMU, Apr 6: A brilliant knock of 71 runs by Paras Sharma went in vain as Akash Singh Manhas and Pankaj Ladda helped Shastri Cricket Club (SCC) to outplay star-studded Jammu Cricket Club (JCC) by 8 wickets in a rain-hit match to lift the title trophy of the 1st SP Smart T20 Cricket Cup at MA Stadium, here today.
The Tournament was organised by chief organiser Vicky Raina and his team with an objective to promote sports in the State.
Secretary, J&K State Sports Council, Jawaid Ahmed Shah was the chief guest on the valedictory function, who distributed prizes among the winners and runners-up teams on the occasion, while Bimal Kumar Wantoo from State Bank of India (SBI) was the guest of honour.
Earlier, batting first, JCC scored a decent total of 165 runs in the allotted 20 overs, losing 5 wickets in the process. Paras Sharma scored magnificent 71 runs, while Shubham Pundir contributed brilliant 52 runs. Deepak Dogra also chipped in with unbeaten 23 runs. Akash Singh Manhas took 2 wickets for Shastri Cricket Club, while Aman and Varun claimed one wicket each.
In reply, SCC were 74/2 in 7 overs when rain forced to stop the play. As per the rain rule of the tournament, Shastri Cricket Club needed 51 runs in first 6 overs, which they achieved easily by losing 2 wickets, thus won the match by 8 wickets and lifted the title. Pankaj Ladda contributed quick-fire 32 runs, while Akash Singh Manhas scored brisk 22 runs and Avesh Sharma chipped in with 15 runs. For JCC, Vivek Singh took 2 wickets. Paras Sharma was declared as man of the match and Amit Sharma was adjudged as man of the tournament, while Kavi Raj and Deepak Dogra were named as best batsman and best bowler respectively.
The match was officiated by Ashok and Madan as umpire, while Sheru was the scorer.
