JAMMU, Apr 24: Excise Department Jammu has tightened its noose on violators of the various provisions of the J&K Excise Act in entire Jammu division. Under the active supervision of Deputy Excise Commis-sioner (Executive), Jammu Mohammad Shahid Saleem, the Excise Team Kathua under the command of ETO, Sandeep Gupta raided the Chakdrabkhan, Chabachak and Keengdayal areas of Kathua district to arrest the menace of illicit distillation.
More than 500 hundred kilo grams of lahan, 30 big pouches of illicit liquor equivalent to 20 bottles of liquor, which is highly injurious to health, was recovered by the raiding team which was later destroyed by the team on spot.
Meanwhile, other Excise Team consisting of Eradication Wing Jammu Excise South range Jammu and under the command of ETO, Eradication, Jammu Suresh Sharma, raided the Deoli, Makhanpur, Salehar, Dablehar, Tarachak, Kotlicharkhan, Kotli-mainfateh, Phinder and adjoining areas of R.S. Pura and Bishna to arrest the menace of illicit distillation. More than 600 hundred kilo grams of Lahan was recovered by the raiding team which was later destroyed by the team on spot. One person namely Kamal Kumar son of Ramu Sansi resident of Tarachak was arrested under Sec 48 of the J&K Excsie Act.
In Udhampur the Excise team under the command of Excise Inspector, Rajesh Sharma laid a Naka on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway to check the Toll evasion. 116 vehicles were put to check and in the process Rs. 8250.00 was realized as fine from the Toll evaders.
