JAMMU, Apr 24: JK Surveyors Welfare Association has given a call for complete strike on April 25 in protest against the new Gazette notifications, issued by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDA).
As per new rules, IRDA has barred use of an Independent Surveyor for inspection of any loss, below Rs 50000/-. Loss upto that amount will be inspected by an Insurance Company’s In-house surveyor.
“The new policy has been enacted without consulting Surveyors fraternity while IRDA has implemented qualification criterion now, according to which only an Automobile Engineer can inspect Motor vehicle claims and an Electrical Engineer can inspect claims of only Electrical gadgets, which was not the case, previously,” said the Association leaders, while addressing a press conference, here today.
While explaining that it was not possible for a Civil Engineer who did his BE in 1988, to do Automobile Engineering now, at the age of 50, the Association appealed the Government that the new regulations should be applied to freshers in the profession.
“In short, the new amendments tend to make us jobless, by snatching away our bread and butter, which will be grave injustice. Through the proposed strike, we wish to convey to the IRDA and Union Finance Ministry to keep the new IRDA Gazette on hold, keeping in view the interest of the common Surveyors and not apply new Gazette to benefit exclusive class of sellers/service providers, the Association leaders said and again appealed the Government not to ruin the career of 50000 odd Surveyors.
Those who addressed the press conference, included K B Manchanda (chairman), Manvir Singh (president), Sudershan Chowdhary (general secretary), Sanjay Tagotra and Anil Sambyal.
