JAMMU, Apr 26: To discuss roadmap for implementation of “Smart” Policing Concept, Director General of Police (DGP), K Rajendra Kumar today convened a high level meeting of senior officers here today. The roadmap has been prepared by Union Ministry of Home Affairs in order to make police abreast with knowledge of laws, rules and procedures.
Deliberating on the objectives of the concept, Mr. Rajendra said that the concept once implemented would enhance the capabilities of police forces in the country to deliver at the grass root level. He said that the roadmap touches every area of policing to strengthen police public relations, sharpen training skills for efficient investigation and maintenance of law and order, welfare of personnel, participation of women in the police and attitudinal change in the forces.
DGP sought suggestions from the officers present in the meeting for implementation of the concept within the time frame. He said that the “men in uniform” should be polite towards the public and lower ranks, particularly to the expectations of the people for them.
Mr. Rajendra emphasised on introducing new technologies in course curriculum making the policemen tech savvy. He said that modern skills of policing, special lectures by experts would inculcate a sense of public service among the personnel. Participation of women in police force would also ensure gender sensitivity, besides dealing with the vulnerable sections of the society, he added.
During deliberations officers present in the meeting gave suggestions for the implementation of concept. It was told that a comprehensive planning should be adopted to work on the different aspects of the concept. Monitoring and supervision at different levels is imperative to make the efforts fruitful.
The meeting decided to constitute a committee headed by ADGP (Trainings) and ADGP Armed, Zonal Inspector General of Police, besides co-opted with its members to workout different modalities to strengthen the training infrastructure and bring innovative changes in the curriculum. It was also decided that skilled personnel would be utilized for a particular job for better man management.
Earlier, AIG (CIV), Kulbir Singh gave a detailed power point presentation regarding the smart policing concept.
Besides DG (Coordination), SK Mishra and DG Home-guards, Gopal Reddy, the meeting was attended by ADGPs, Navin Agarwal, VK Singh, Dilbag Singh, L. Mohanti and AK Choudhary, IGPs, HK Lohia. SJM Gillani, AG Mir, MS Salaria, Yoginder Koul, Muneer Ahmed Khan, Rajesh Kumar, Danesh Rana, SL Sharma, Jagjit Kumar, SA Watali and MA Ganai and other police officers.
