USTA holds conference, discusses demands

SAMBA, May 8: A one-day conference of J&K United School Teachers’ Association was held today here at Vijaypur to discuss the prevailing education scenario of the State and discuss their demands.
A large number of teacher delegates from across the State participated in the conference, which was presided over by the presidium comprising of Sirajudin, Hari Singh, Rajiv Kumar, Dr Shashi Pal Singh, Sajjad Mirza and Ashwani Kumar.
Eminent leadership of School Teacher Federation of India (STFI) which included CN Bharti, general secretary and Mahavir Sihag, secretary, also graced the occasion.
Inaugurating the conference, CN Bharti, expressed concern over the challenges being faced by the school education of poor students. He lambasted the Central as well as State Governments for trying to demolish the public education system by not increasing the budgetary allocation upto 6% of GDP in education sector.
Addressing the conference, Mahavir Sihag held the policies of Central as well as State Governments responsible for decreasing students’ enrolment in the Government schools. He took exception of privatization of education and stated that commercialization is detrimental to the society and National integration of the Country.
The conference also passed various resolutions such as Education For All (EFA) by increasing budgetary provision, implementation of Right to Education Act 2010 in the State, enhancement in the promotional avenues of teachers working in State-run schools, abolition of contractual appointment and appointment of teachers on permanent basis, withholding of New Pension scheme and PFRDA bill, easy settlement of routine matters in various offices and strengthening of communal harmony in the State.
