Srinagar, May 10: Police today foiled Secretariat march of dozens of disabled persons who were protesting in favour of their series of demands which include reservation in Government jobs and financial assistance.
Witnesses said the disabled persons assembled at press enclave here under the banner of Jammu and Kashmir Handicapped Association (JKHA) and started sloganeering in favour of their demands.
The protesters were holding placards and banners and raised slogans like ‘we want justice’. Seeking reservation in Government jobs, financial assistance of Rs. 6000, 50 percent subsidy on water and electrical bills and 50 percent subsidy on loans, the protesters tried to march towards Civil Secretariat where they were scheduled to present a memorandum to Chief Minister.
However, a large contingent of police additionally present in the press enclave, foiled protesters attempt to march ahead by bundling them in police vehicle. At least six handicapped protesters were detained by cops and were lodged in nearby police station. Later they were let off.
