NEW DELHI, May 12 : Minister for Forests, Ecology and Environment Choudhary Lal Singh today called on Secretary, Ministry of Water Resources, River Development and Ganga Rejuvenation Shashi Shekhar at Shram Shakti Bhawan here.
During the meeting, the Minister discussed various issues related to maintenance and sufficient use of water resources to meet the growing demand of this precious natural resource which is vital for environmental sustenance and sustainable economic development. The action plan to be taken for the preservation and conservation of lakes of wild life area like Mansar, Surinsar, Ranjit Sagar Lake and Wullar Lake was also discussed in the meeting.
The Minister also apprised the Secretary about the peculiar situation rising in Kandi belt due to scarcity of water and laid stress on the implementation of water harvesting schemes.
The Secretary assured the Minister that all possible help would be provided to the Jammu and Kashmir Government from the Union Ministry for the conservation and preservation of water.
