This has reference to the news item ‘Vulnerable forests in J&K to be fenced to check encroachments’ DE May 12.
The way forest land is being encroached by land grabbers and other anti-social elements in the State is really a matter of concern for the public as well the Government.
The land grabbed is sold at exorbitant rates to people for construction of commercial complexes or residential buildings.
If encroachment goes like this, it will have serious consequences for not only the local population but also on the wildlife of the State.
With depleting forest cover, wildlife is also dwindling. The flora and fauna which are quite important for maintaining ecological system is also necessary for survival of mankind.
The present situation has arisen primarily because of non-serious attitude of the successive Government so far. During last 25 years, forests in Jammu and Kashmir have suffered much damage, and if situation is not handled sensibly, it will give a further jolt to this Green Gold.
