Vomedh announces Pt. Birbal Dhar awards

JAMMU, May 15: Vomedh, a theatre group of young artists in exile which is observing its 10th year of existence has taken a lead in rejuvenating the theatre among the displaced people from Valley by encouraging the young and budding artists from the Kashmiri Pandit community as well as other communities towards theatre.
Vomedh, which is working in the field of theatre has taken various steps in this regard, said  Rakesh Roshan Bhat, mentor of the Theatre Group along with its Founder Director, Rohit Bhat while talking to reporters here, today.
Rakesh said that many organizations are doing stupendous work in preservation of age old culture and ethos of Kashmiri Pandits in exile which dates back to Vedic and Puranic period, but Vomedh has chosen to focus on theatre only as it was also an ancient art of Kashmir to which our community was associated from Puranic period.
He said theatre has an appeal as it can build an immediate connection with the audience and can leave a positive impact on the masses. It also serves an open platform for the talented youth of the State. Rakesh Roshan said he feels elated to see that the youth are able in channeling their energy positively through this platform.
Reminiscing the past journey of 10 years, he said “we are proud of all our productions but Ek Aur Birbal is very special to us as it was connected so well with the audience which gave us a lot of love and affection from everyone’’.
Elaborating the future plans of Vomedh, its founder director, Rohit Bhat said that 3rd show of Ek Aur Birbal will be staged tomorrow. He said that as the play has a historical background and is linked to medieval history of Kashmir, the Vomedh will leave no stone unturned in staging this play in each and every part of the country.
He also announced that Pt Birbal awards will be conferred tomorrow during the function. The award will be a humble way to pay respect to the great visionary and crusader Pt Birbal Dhar who with his grit, talent and courage saved the Kashmiris from tyrant Pathan rulers at that time.
He also announced that Lalit Parimoo has joined Vomedh as the chief mentor and his experience will certainly help to a great deal to the aspiring artists of the State. He also announced that Vomedh will soon organize an acting workshop with Parimoo.
