Harshit lifts overall C’ship title, Ishita bags special prize of Chief Arbiter’s Choice

JAMMU, May 16: First Inter-School Tournament under World Chess Federation’s programme ‘Chess in Schools’, being organised by All J&K Chess Association in collaboration with Tiny Tots School Sainik Colony concluded today.
Harshit Gupta of KC International School with his determining efforts won the overall championship title and was awarded Rs 10,000 cash prize.
In the ongoing Chess Championship at Tiny Tots School Sainik Colony, over 700 players from 20 different schools of Jammu participated.
In the super-final, Harshit Gupta won all the matches and drew one to claim the overall Championship title. Ishita Raina of Tiny Tots School Sainik Colony was given special prize of Chief Arbiter’s Choice Rs 1000 and Gold Medal. Besides all group winners were given Rs 1000 cash alongwith gold medals and certificates.
The event was played under boys and girls’ categories in six different groups i.e. class 1st to 4th, class 5th to 8th and class 9th to 12th.
In Class Ist to 4th category (boys), Divyam Gupta from KV Sunjuwan won the gold medal, while Shubhankar Sobani of Jodhamal School and Ritwik Bagoria of KV Gandhi Nagar secured silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in girls category, Sidhangha of Little Flower, Tejisvi of Tiny Tots Roop Nagar and Leyth of KV Gandhi Nagar bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Class 5th to 8th boys, Sanyam Gupta of KV Gandhi Nagar, Soham Kamotra of DPS and Jaiveer Singh of DPS secured gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in girls category, Samriddhi Saxena of Heritage School, Sehaj Jappan Kour of Little Flower and Tatiksha of Little Flower claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In Class 9th to 12th category (boys), Harshit Gupta of KC International School, Yaksh Chopra of Heritage School and Akashdeep Singh of KC International bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in girl category, Avni Gupta of Heritage School, Sanjukta Sobani of Jodhamal School and Vineeta of Little Flower School claimed gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
On the valedictory function, Raman Bhalla, Ex-Minister was the chief guest on the occasion and Naseem Javed Choudhary, Deputy Director Protocol was the guest of honour. Atul Kumar Gupta, president All J&K Chess Association, Taranvir Singh Gujral, vice president AJKCA, Kuljeet Singh Jamwal, chairman Chess in School Program Committee Jammu Division, Vikas Nanda coordinator AJKCA, Raj Kumar Co-chairman, CIS  Committee Jammu Division, Dr Vikram Handa, Principal Tiny Tots School, Gurpreet Handa, Director Tiny Tots School and Arun Manhas Secretary CIS Program were also present.
While speaking, Raman Bhalla said that AJKCA’s initiative will give platform to youth to display their talent and will also divert their mind towards positive direction.
