Politics of force, pressure unacceptable: Mirwaiz

Srinagar, May 17: Accusing ‘agencies’ of  dividing people on sectarian lines, moderate Hurriyat Conference chairman, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq today said politics of force and pressure is unacceptable to the faction.
“If anyone takes one step towards us, we would take 10 steps forward… but politics of force and pressure is not going to be acceptable,” said Mirwaiz while addressing a seminar ahead of his father’s death anniversary on May 21.
The Mirwaiz said Kashmir issue was related to the people’s aspirations and emotions. Mirwaiz alleged that people in power in Srinagar and New Delhi were using all possible tactics and propaganda to break the resolve of Kashmiris.
“In the name of Pandit Colonies and Sainik Colonies, these people were trying to damage the disputed character of Jammu and Kashmir and weaken us economically and politically by executing these plans,” he said.
Mirwaiz said under a well designed conspiracy some agencies were promoting a particular thought to divide people on sectarian lines and damage the centuries old mutual brother hood, harmony and approach of co-existence among various communities in Kashmir.
Appealing the people to make the May 21 public rally at Martyrs’ Graveyard Eidgah a success, the Mirwaiz said there would be complete shutdown in entire Kashmir on this day. He said on May 21, Hurriyat leaders would lead public rallies from different places of Kashmir towards Eidgah Srinagar.
