Army dedicates cricket stadium to youth

Srinagar, May 18: In continuation with the people-oriented friendly activities, the Army renovated a cricket stadium at Tsaraligund and dedicated the same to the youth of Tral and Awantipora in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.
“As part of the project, a number of works have been executed which included leveling of cricket ground, construction of a new cricket pitch, renovation of existing shed and store room, construction of changing rooms and a toilet and provision of a hand pump, pitch roller, score board, pitch mat, cricket kits. All the assets were handed over to the management committee of the stadium,” said a defence spokesman said.
He said in order to mark the occasion, finals of Shah-e-Hamdan Cricket Tournament – II was also played between Bright Sports Vs Panthers Cricket Club in which Bright Sports won by 56 runs.
The spokesman said GOC Victor Force, Major General Ashok Narula graced the occasion and gave away the prizes in the closing ceremony of the tournament.  “The Champion Trophy and a Cash Award was presented to the winning and runners up teams. The event was a step towards nurturing sporting talent and providing platform to the youth to hone on their sporting skills,” he said.
