JAMMU, June 1: To involve the alumni and civil society in the day-to-day functioning of the Jammu University, Vice-Chancellor Prof R D Sharma had an interaction today with the prominent members of these sections.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof Sharma said that the suggestions of various stakeholders, especially the civil society, will help in devising policies and programmes for improving academics in this institution, which is emerging as a premier educational hub in this part of the country.
This being the second interactive session with the civil society, Prof Sharma also briefed the members about the actions taken on the issues deliberated upon during the first interaction.
Prof Sharma also sought support and co-operation from the Alumni in the University affairs and exhorted them to provide their key-inputs on the various important aspects like placements, research collaborations, policy making etc for holistic development of the varsity.
The civil society members and alumni also put forth their views about the present educational system and also impressed upon follow up action on the recommendations made during the workshops, seminars and conferences as these can further be given a practical shape. The members stressed on the need based courses having employability potential and suggested area specific research to cater the various needs of different regions of the street. Among other suggestions, put forth by the members, pertained to overall functioning of the university including inculcating spirit of nationalism among the students and scholars by organizing various programmes, stress on aesthetic development, health and hygiene and making University culturally vibrant. They also suggested to offer courses for senior citizens. They also sought proper disposal of garbage including leaves and disposable glasses.
