JAMMU, June 3: Ahead of annual Amarnath Yatra scheduled to begin from July 2, DIG Jammu-Samba-Kathua range Ashkoor Wani today said that Security Grid along the International Border is very much intact and any plot by the militants to disrupt the yatra will be thwarted effectively.
”The Security Grid in the hinterland and bordering hamlets is tight and further enhanced in view of upcoming Amarnath pilgrimage,” Wani told media persons at the sidelines of an interaction with media on the topic ‘How Police Should Work In The Eyes of Media.’
Wani said, ”alert is always there on the border, but special vigil is being maintained on specific inputs.”
”Militancy at present across Jammu region is almost ”zero” but still security has to be maintained as preventive and safety measure,” the DIG said.
He asserted that presently there are no specific infiltration inputs or threat along the border but Security Grid in very much in place to ensure that if any attempt was made by the militants to infiltrate to create disturbances especially during upcoming annual Amarnath ji pilgrimage, it was foiled effectively.
”We have instructed our men to maintain extra vigil and surveillance in the bordering areas and also tighten security in the nearby districts, without creating trouble for the common people,” said the DIG.
He said police did receive complaints of corruption against the officials and connivance in the bovine smuggling and they are investigated and action taken.
Seeking cooperation from the people, he said the people should come forward if they find any kind of lacunae on part of police in dealing with crime and other sensitive cases. He promised prompt action on the complaints of the people against police personnel.
