SRINAGAR, June 4: On the occasion of World Environment Day, Governor N.N. Vohra has extended his greetings and appealed to the people of J&K and all the concerned Government and non-government organizations to join hands for enlarging awareness to protect nature and the planet Earth.
In his message, the Governor observed that the theme of this year’s World Environment Day is “Zero tolerance for illegal Wildlife Trade”. Illegal trade in wildlife is a major global environmental threat which needs to be tackled through mass awareness at the local, regional and global levels. He said that well planned conservation strategies which are based on people’s involvement require to be implemented for controlling and containing the grave consequences of the progressively increasing exploitation of natural resources.
The Governor said that the people of Jammu and Kashmir, who have for centuries lived in close harmony with nature, will take sustained interest in enlarging awareness about environmental conservation, particularly the protection of wildlife.
