STC Terriers, BSF Red Demons win opening ties

JAMMU, June 6: SAI training centre and BSF demons won their opening matches as Jammu Open Basketball Championship for junior boys and girls started at MA stadium basketball arena, today.
12 teams from Jammu and Kathua are participating in the four day championship, which is being organized by STC Warriors, under the aegis of J&K Basketball Association and Jammu and Kashmir State Spots Council.
In the opening match, SOS beat Jammu district by 33-25. The winners led right from the beginning. Ayush from the winners and Arjun from the losers contributed 12 points each for their teams.
In the second match, Red Demons beat JP World School by 40-24. Nirbhay Jamwal of the winning team displayed good offensive skills and contributed 16 points for his team, while Aditya Rajrah contributed 9 points for the losing side.
In the third match of the day, STC Terriers beat a fighting Kathua district by 55-27. Inderjeet Singh and Neeraj Manhas scored 14 and 12 points, respectively for STC Terriers.
The matches were officiated by Sumit Dogra, Rajesh Bhagat, Amarpreet Kour, Amanjot, Kanupriya Dubey, Shubham Sharma, Vinod Dogra, Shubham Bhardwaj, Kunal Gupta and Harpreet Singh.
Earlier, the tournament was inaugurated by Prof Keshav Sharma, Registrar, University of Jammu. He appreciated the efforts of organizers and highlighted the importance of games and sports in the personality development of the youth.
