JAMMU, June 6: Ridiculing the haughty and supercilious claims made by the State and Central Government on good governance and ‘Achhe Din’, Harshdev Singh, Chairman JKNPP and former Minister, has lambasted the BJP leadership for subjecting the people to inexpressible miseries and tribulations in the wake of unprecedented power cuts in the region.
In a statement, he said that the massive scheduled and unscheduled power cuts had literally sucked the life out of the people with no takers for their woes and suffering despite repeated protests, appeals and representations.
He said that while the mandated leaders of Jammu were rejoicing the cool breeze and ravishing ambience of Kashmir resorts, the people of Jammu especially the aged, ailing and the children were having the nightmarish experiences of the much proclaimed ‘Achhe Din’ of the BJP partnered Govt.
Harshdev Singh said that the unprecedented power crisis during scorching summer had thrown life out of gear in both urban and rural areas with loudest shrills of people going un-heard and unresponded. He regretted that despite the pathetic plight of the people, the elected representatives had failed to effectively project their concerns in the Assembly.
Strongly flaying the callous and insensitive attitude of the Power Development Department, he said that the people of Jammu region are made to suffer immense hardships due to scorching heat and soaring humidity with no respite from scheduled and unscheduled power cuts despite assurance. He regretted that in spite of persistent appeals to Government to adhere to scheduled calendar on power supply and the repeated assurances of the Government , no action had been taken by the latter thus adding to the sufferings and distress of common man. He said that the Jammu region was the major sufferer with the Government and its ministers being mute spectators in the face of a critical and crisis like situation.
Mr Singh also pointed towards the most obnoxious aspects of power distribution within the state. Citing figures, he said that the power consumption between Jammu and Kashmir regions is in the ratio of 40:60 respectively but when it comes to revenue realization Jammu contributes more than 66 percent of power tariff with barely 33 percent coming from Kashmir region.
