Sealing Indo-Bangla border

Home Ministry has ordered sealing of Indo-Bangla border in Assam. The order has come shortly the completion of elections and installation of BJP-led Government in Assam. The BJP had committed itself in the election manifesto for Assam that if it returned to power, it will waste no time in closing the border between Assam and Bangladesh.
This border has been very notorious for allowing millions of Bangladeshi migrants to move illegally into Assam and settle down there to the great anger and dislike of the Assamese. Actually, this issue has been politicized and it was reported that the Congress Government was just overlooking the illegal migration for a pretty long time till it became a volatile human issue and had great impact on domestic politics. The total length of the Indo-Bangladesh border is 4,096 km of which 284 km falls in Assam. The Home Ministry has issued orders that the Assam State border with Bangladesh should be sealed completely. It is expected that required steps will be taken to this end and in two years complete sealing of the stretch will be done. Assam Chief Minister said BJP had made two promises in its manifesto and one of these was of sealing the borer.
It has to be remembered that illegal immigration from Bangladesh had become a security risk for the country because hundreds and thousands of immigrants could not be checked from security perception.  It is learnt that before issuing the sealing order, the Home Ministry had taken Bangladesh into confidence and the Bangladesh did not like that anything should be allowed that would bring strain on Indo-Bangladesh relations which is very cordial at the moment.
