J&K plays 95 overs for 78 runs; Punjab 63/5 on day-1

JAMMU, Sept 20: Playing against the formidable side of Punjab, the Jammu and Kashmir batsmen played so cautiously that they managed to score just 78 runs in a marathon innings of 95 overs, losing 9 wickets in the process, while Punjab were 63/5 when the stumps were drawn today on day-1 of the 2-day match of the BCCI’s North Zone Under-14 Cricket Tournament, being organized by Haryana Cricket Association at Delhi Public School ground, Rohtak.
Batting first, J&K started the proceedings with openers Sanchit Dass and Kamran, who played extremely slow game without losing any wicket in first 15 overs. After the dismissal of Kamran at his individual score of 8 runs, the other batsmen followed the same path of sedate show and the side played a long innings of 95 overs but managed to score just 78 runs. Tehseen top scored with 17 runs, while Sanchit Dass contributed 11 runs, which was followed by Jagjeet (9), Sahil Lotra (7) and Vivrant (6). For Punjab, Rahul, Abhishek and Navpreet scalped 3 wickets each.
In reply, Punjab were 63 for the loss of 5 wickets in 25 overs at the draw of stumps today.
Abhishek Sharma, who earlier took 3 wickets was the top scorer with 33 runs. For J&K, consistent wicket-taker Majid took 2 wickets, while Yogesh and Taizeem claimed one wicket each.
