JAMMU, June 12: Continuing with its tradition to give practical exposure to its budding designers since its inception 20 years back, National Institute of Fashion Designing (NIFD) Jammu invited Chandigarh based fashion designer Parmesh Sharma who was also an alumni of the fashion designing institute.
During the two-day visit, the students of NIFD interacted with the designer who after completing his degree in fashion design from NIFD Jammu went to Chandigarh for pursuing a course in advance draping techniques.
Parmesh gave an insight to the students into the designing world and motivated them to make a career out of the course they were pursuing. The second day was completely dedicated to the process of constructing a garment through draping as a final product.
Draping is a technique where the fabric is put and pinned into a design on the dress form and then removed and stitched .This gives accuracy in fitting of the garment on a body. The students were very happy to learn this valuable technique. Students were divided into groups.
Chairperson NIFD, Vanita Thakur announced the launch of a three-month basic course in draping at NIFD.
