Woman pedestrian killed, another injured in accidents

RAMBAN, June 21: A woman pedestrian was killed, while one another received critical injuries in road accidents at different locations of the district.
As per police sources, a woman identified as Nasima Begum (45), wife of late Ghulam Hassan Sheikh, a resident of Chareel, was walking on the road side, when an unidentified vehicle knocked her to death at Chareel area on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway.
On getting information, a team from Banihal police station rushed to the spot and shifted the body of the deceased to Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal.
After conducting autopsy, the body was handed over to family members for last rites.
A case under Section 75/16 under Section 279 and 304-A RPC has been registered at Banihal police station and manhunt has been launched to trace out the vehicle and driver.
Meanwhile, a pedestrian identified as Omkar Singh, son of Krishan Singh, a resident of Rajbagh was critically injured after being hit by a truck bearing registration number JK02A-0325.
The injured has been shifted to District Hospital Ramban, where he was responding to the treatment, when reports last came in.
The truck driver, who managed to escape from the spot was arrested near Shan Palace area of Ramban police station and later handed over to Chanderkote police.
A case under relevant Sections has been registered at Chanderkote police station and investigation started.
