Rs 21.04 crore being spent per month to provide security to 1890 people in J&K

SRINAGAR, June 21: An amount of Rs 21.04 crore is being spent per month to provide security to 1890 protected people in Jammu and Kashmir, where 634 vehicles have been deputed for the purpose.
Minister for Revenue, Relief and Rehabilitation, Syed Basharat Bukhari today informed the Legislative Assembly that there are 1890 protected people in the State who are being provided security by the State Government.
Responding to a question raised by the Member Javed Ahmad Rana, the Minister said that 634 vehicles have been deployed with 373 protected people, besides 284 political people have been allotted secured hotel accommodation.
Mr Rana informed the House that the total monthly expenditure on account of salary of Personal Security Officers (PSOs), static guards, escort, fuel and hotel accommodation of 1890 protected people and 284 political people is Rs 21.04 crore.
The Minister said that the salary of the police personnel other than SPOs deployed as PSOs or on guard/escort duties with protected people is being borne by the State Government while the transportation and accommodation are being reimbursed by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. The Minister said that the security cover to the protected people is provided as per the guidelines of Union Ministry of Home Affairs and is periodically reviewed by the Security Review Coordination Committee constituted by the State Government.
