No proposal to provide loan to women to buy taxis in J&K

SRINAGAR, June 21: There is no scheme or proposal to provide loan to women to buy taxis in Jammu and Kashmir, Minister of State for Transport (independent charge) Sunil Kumar Sharma said here today.
Replying to a question in the Legislative Assembly, the Minister said there are no schemes in the Transport Department for providing loans to women to buy taxis. Also, there are no such proposals.
The reply said, however, the provision of a vehicle is available to women who take up tour and travel agency as their business activity under the Seed Capital Fund Scheme in Labour and Employment Department.
However, it may be recalled that the PDP-BJP coalition Government, headed by Mehbooba Mufti, in its budget in May, announced several women-specific measures which include waiving off of fee for all girl students studying in Government run schools upto 12th grade and reservation of 10 per cent area in all industrial estates for women entrepreneurs.
The budget also proposed that 10 per cent area in all industrial estates of the State shall be reserved for women entrepreneurs, subject to the condition that if it is transferred, it shall be to an enterprise which is incorporated in the name of a woman and has women as the majority shareholders.
It also proposed to set up two Entrepreneur Development Centres at Srinagar and Jammu to help, guide and train aspiring women entrepreneurs. Setting up of four new Women Police Stations at Pulwama, Kupwara, Kathua and Udhampur was also announced in the budget.
The budget also has provision of Rs 5 crore for starting a dedicated city bus service for women in Srinagar and Jammu cities besides to provide exclusive women toilets in all State, district and sub-district hospitals.
