Srinagar Schools’ team brings laurels

SRINAGAR, Sept 22: The Army Sadhbhavana Team Combined (ASTC), Srinagar football team consisting of boys from 5 different schools of Srinagar arrived to a rousing welcome at the location of 126 Inf Bn (TA) JAK RIF, here today.
The team visited Madhopur, New Delhi, Ajmer and Chandigarh during the tour and interacted with the Commanding Officers of the units of different location and Lt Gen AK Siwach, VSM, ADG TA at Delhi. They also closely bonded with members of different teams at Mayo College Ajmer during the course of the tournament
The team qualified for semi-finals after grilling league matches. They drew matches against previous year runner-up Mayo College Ajmer and Scindia School Gwalior, while beating Rashtriya Military School, Ajmer. In the semi-final, the team put up a valiant effort in the second half by scoring 4 goals but were beaten by 5-4 by previous year’s winner Sherwood School, Nainital.
However, the team put up a sterling performance to clinch the 3rd position by beating Pine Groove School (4-1) in the Hardline match.
The team enjoyed great hospitality of the college and patronage of Maj Gen (Retd) KVS Lalotra, AVSM, YSM, SM, Principal, Mayo College, Ajmer, under whose insistence the team was included in the tournament. The privileged opportunity was accorded to the team under the Sadhbhavana Project of Indian Army. The tour was organized by 126 Inf Bn (TA) JAK RIF & Youth Services & Sports Department, J&K Govt under the aegis of HQ 31 Sub Area.
Colonel SS Pathania, SC, Commanding Officer, 126 Inf Bn (TA) JAK RiF extended the team a warm welcome.
