SRINAGAR, July 6: Fire destroyed property worth crores of rupees, including hotels and shops at famed tourist resort of Sonamarg in central Kashmir district of Ganderbal today, official sources said.
They said a blaze broke out in a shop at main market Sonamarg, which spread to adjoining shops and three hotels before the fire tenders could reach the spot. Majority shops were closed as the owners had gone to celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr.
Fire tenders were rushed from different parts of the district, including Gund, Kangan and Ganderbal to control the leading flames, visible from miles away.
The cause of the inferno was not known, they said, adding that no one was injured.
