JAMMU, July 14: Legal Metrology Department (LMD) today stopped the use of all in motion and static weigh bridges installed at Toll Plaza Ban as the said instruments were found in running condition without having accuracy certificate issued by the department.
According to Deputy Controller, Legal Metrology Enforcement, Manoj Prabhakar nn application for verification was received from the M/s Metro Infrasys Private Limited, New Delhi which installed the said in motion weigh bridges few months back and the said firm was asked to furnish the model approval for 120 tonnes issued by Government of India and make necessary technical arrangements for verification, which the said firm was unable to produce and showed its inability to make available suitable test van. Subsequently the said firm issued another letter for the verification of the same weighbridges having accuracy of 100 tonnes.
“The matter was examined since the capacity of weigh bridges was doubtful and it was decided to check weigh bridges for accuracy tests and to ascertain the exact capacity of the said weigh bridges. A test weight loaded verification mobile kit was sent on the spot in February 2016 but the company officials remained absent from the spot and verification officer came back without verification as the computers were password protected”, he added.
He stated that it came to the notice of the department that revenue collection from the said unverified weigh bridges have become operative without getting the accuracy of the said weigh bridges duly verified by the department and receipt issued were also not showing weight.
Accordingly, a team of LMD officers visited the spot and stopped the use of such unverified weigh bridges. It was also found that static weigh bridges were installed with indicator of another company making accuracy more doubtful, Prabhakar added.
