SRINAGAR, July 26: Gover-nment today informed the Jammu and Kashmir High Court that a meeting is being convened in the first week of August for appointment of Chairperson and members of the State Human Rights Commission.
The Division Bench of Chief Justice N P Vasanthakumar and Justice Ali Mohammad Magrey has sought personal appearance of Secretary Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department in case the decision of meeting has not been put before the court.
Court has taken suo-moto note of non-compliance of judgment regarding appointment of Chairperson and members of State Human Rights Commission which was passed last year and till date the SHRC is defunct.
Court said the judgment in this regard has been passed by the Supreme Court in the month of July last year and within three months as per the judgment the Government was supposed to make functional SHRC but nothing has happened at the ground level.
“The time limit mentioned has to be strictly adhered to as the stand taken by the (Government) in the objections filed on October 6 is that the appointment of Chairperson and the members of the SHRC is under its active consideration”, DB had said while disposing of the PIL.
After the submission made by the State counsel, M I Dar (AAG), the court fixed the next hearing of the case on August 9 so that the decision of meeting be made available before the court on next date.
