LEH, July 28: To face any eventuality in wake of frequent flash-flood or cloud burst occurring in various parts of Leh, district administration conducted a mock drill for disaster preparedness at the Emergency Command Centre located at Council Secretariat Leh today. The Centre was inaugurated by Deputy Commissioner today.  Under the command of Deputy Commissioner Prasanna Ramaswamy G who is also the Chairman of District Disaster Management Authority Leh. Various stakeholders including civil administration, Indian Army, Indian Air Force, BRO, ITBP, NHPC, Police, SDRF, Transporters and public representatives were involved to coordinate with each other incase of emergency.
During the process SRDF equipments, JCBs, Ambulance, Buses, Medical, DSPT, Wireless set and all other requirement machines and materials were exhibited at Command Centre to ensure close coordination during emergency.  In this regards four special relief camps have been set up at various location which includes Camps-1 at Food Craft Institute Takshi Thang under the incharge of MC Administrator Dr.Zaida Bano, Camp-2 located at Government Girls Higher Secondary School under the incharge of school Principal Sonam Dorjay SS, Camp-3 at EJM Government Degree college with incharge Assistant Commissioner (Dev) Tsering Paldan and Camp-4 at Tashi Thongmon Choglamsar under DFO Mohd Ali. The relief camps will have all required materials and heads of department of the essential services like PDD, CA&PD, PHE, Medical and Cooperative Department will ensure to provide required services at the established camps.
“Leh being an vulnerable place frequently occurring cloud burst reports every year, District administration decided to hold this mock drill so that all things are in place incase of emergency and each team must know their duty in advance to act swiftly during emergency” said Deputy Commissioner while assuring that there is nothing to panic and people should not believe on rumors spreading about natural disaster.
SSP Tsering Gyalpo mentioned that they had formed Group headed by officer to provide help in Sector wise, Zone wise and location wise.
