JAMMU, July 31: With an aim to positively engage youth of remote areas as well as to introduce sports as a healthy pursuit, Rashtriya Rifles Battalion at Sungri organised a sports festival in coordination with the village sports bodies. The two days festival was organised in coordination with 11 schools and the Degree College.
A total of 140 sportspersons participated in the tournament involving school level competitions in Athletics, Volleyball, Kho-Kho and Kabaddi.
All the participants displayed sportsmanship, enthusiasm and vigour to excel in their fields and the highlight of the festival was participation of girls in Athletics and Kho-Kho.
The sports fest was a crowd puller attracting huge local villagers who cheered their respective teams. Convent School Sungri girls won the overall championship trophy in Kho- Kho, while Gulshama Akhtar of Middle School Sakrala bagged first prize in 100 meters sprint.
The individual and team prizes were given to Mohammad Aslam of Government High School, Chalan in 100 meters and Shokad Ali of Government High School, Kotli in 200 meters. In Volleyball, Government High School, Kotli emerged winner, whereas in Kabaddi, Government High School, Kotli secured top position. In Kho-Kho (Girls), Cooperative Education School, Sungri emerged winner.
