SRINAGAR, Aug 1: Vice-Chairman of J&K Khadi and Village Industries Board (KVIB), Peerzada Mansoor Hussain has said that bee-keeping would be taken up as thrust area activity and a Common Facility Centre will be established to provide scientific processing, bottling, testing and other facilities to the bee-keepers.
The Vice-Chairman said this while reviewing the functioning of KVIB here today. The meeting was attended by Chief Executive Officer/Secretary KVIB, Deputy CEOs and other senior officers of the Board.
During the meeting, it was decided that the village industry activities like packing of milk, Gabba-Sazi and wool shearing will be adopted on modern lines and certain villages will be adopted by the KVIB to develop such village industry activities on modern lines to create employment for unemployed youths.
It was decided in the meeting that marketing efforts need to be reinforced by organizing exhibitions at district and state levels besides construction of two marketing plazas at both capitals of the State. It was also decided to improve design and style of Khadi items by roping in premier design institutes like National Institute of Fashion and Technology (NIFT)
Earlier, the Vice-Chairman was informed that KVIB has established 45, 000 income generating units till date and provides employment to more than two lakh artisans and entrepreneurs in the state. It was further revealed that under Prime Minister’s Employment Generation Program (PMNEGP) against a target of 726 units, 1310 units have been established during the 2016-17 which involves Rs 25.25 crore subsidies.
