JAMMU, Aug 5: A panel discussion on the topic “Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions” was organized at KC Public School.
Suzanne Henry and James Richardson, Teaching Assistants working in the school under British Council’s Generation UK-India Programme acted as moderators.
It was a great opportunity for students to discuss and express their views on a relevant and engaging topic. The discussion touched all aspects of the key-words and was very engrossing.
Talking about the present scenario, the panellists talked about how peace is threatened due to economic disparity, disintegration of values, discrimination, closed mindsets and prejudices and how strong institutions go a long way in restoring peace and justice. The atmosphere got charged when James involved the audience in the discussion leading to many light-hearted moments.
In her inspirational message, Director Arti Chowdhary said that conflicts are bound to happen but we should have the ability to handle them peacefully. The dire need of the hour is to develop new age values of conscious evolution which will result in global sharing.
Addressing the audience, Principal Amarendra Mishra said that “We need to understand that rights and duties go together and strong sense of commitment for a bigger cause can help us understand the values of peace and justice. He also emphasised the need for sustainable development which is the pathway to the future and offers to generate environmental stewardship.
Concluding the session, James and Suzanne were equivocal in their opinion that every step towards peace and justice requires passionate concern of dedicated individuals.
The discussion ended on a positive note that, ‘Peace begins with me’.
Parents who came to watch the programme were quite impressed with the eloquence and confidence of KCPS students taking part in the panel discussion.
