Development of Ladakh

Sir,
This has reference to the news item ‘ Ladakh crown of India, will get full focus’ DE Aug 17.
There is no doubt Ladakh region is crown of India. It has its unique identity in terms of topography, culture and history. But this region has not received the attention it deserved from both the Governments-State and Centre. As a result it is still reeling under backwardness and groping in darkness.
Though topography and climatic conditions play their part in not helping the region move on the path of progress and development, it is the apathetic attitude of the successive Governments that has compounded the problems of the region. The political leaders cutting across party affiliations have been promising the moon to the people here, but in reality nothing substantial is done to ameliorate the living conditions of people.
The people here have to depend on others for almost all essential items. The agriculture sector which is the mainstay of local economy is in a shambles. The people are losing interest in the sector, as it is no longer considered a profitable occupation. The Industrial sector has no scope to develop in the present circumstance. Likewise, there are also other areas which need attention. The Government must come with a proper plan for the development of the region.
Yours etc….
