JAMMU, Aug 23: In an effort to foster the qualities of sportsmanship and spirit of adventure, a trekking expedition was organised by the Army.
The trek has been planned from Gulabgarh to Padam in the Zanskar region which is one of the historical campaigning routes under taken by General Zorawar Singh.
The expedition was flagged-off by General Officer Commanding, Delta Force from Kishtwar Helipad, today.
A team of one Officer, one Junior Commissioned Officer and 12 jawans will be participating in the trekking event along the adventurous route of Gulabgarh-Chishot-Machail-Sumcham-Khachay Phangso-Ruwa-Umasi La-Ating-Padam, covering a total distance of approximately 155 kilometers in 11 days.
During its course, trekkers will be sealing the heights ranging from 3500 meters to 5300 meters i.e. almost 16500 ft at Umasi-La pass on Zanskar range.
The trekking team has been carrying out extensive training and acclimatization for last four weeks at different heights and locations to prepare themselves for the event.
Adventure activities of such nature instill team spirit, physical and mental courage, high level of endurance and discipline among the soldiers.
