JAMMU, Aug 23: Players continued to showcase their talent on the second day of the ongoing Inter College Competitions in various disciplines for men and women, being organized by University of Jammu at Varsity campus, here today.
In Inter-Collegiate Cross Country Championship for women, 11 athletes from 8 colleges took part. Narmita Katoch of GCW Gandhi Nagar clinched Gold medal by completing the race in 35 minutes, whereas Stanzin Yngol of GCW Parade and Kiran Devi of GDC (Women) Kathua claimed second and third positions by completing the race in 37 and 39.19 minutes respectively.
In Kho-Kho (men), SPMR College of Commerce smashed GDC Kathua in the first match by 1 point and one inning with a score of 9-8, whereas PG Department defeated GDC Rajouri by 3 points (8-5). In women section, GWC Parade beat GCW Udhampur by 1 point (8-7).
In Chess (women), GCW Parade team beat GCW Udhampur team by 4-0 points. Sushmita Jamwal beat Sonia Devi, Sonali Manhas smashed Kajal Sharma, Akriti Kotwal crushed Natasha Sharma and Hansja Sharma outplayed Suchita Sharma. In Men section, MIET beat GDC RS Pura by 4-0 points in the first match. Vikas Kotwal beat Amandeep, Abhishek Gupta outclassed Sahil Dogra, Agrin Pandotra defeated Vikram Choudhary and Rajant Sharma crushed Naresh Kumar.
In the second match, GDC Udhampur beat GGM Science College team by 2.5-1.5 points. Rahul Sharma of GDC Udhampur beat Akhil Singh of GGM Science College, Shivang Gupta of GDC Udhampur thrashed Shubham Slathia and Ankush Sharma of GDC Udhampur lost to Sourav Singh Bagerwan. The match between Raghuveer Singh of GDC Udhampur and Kunal Sharma remained draw.
In the third match, PG Department, JU routed GDC Reasi by 3-2 points in best versus best game. Kulveer Singh Parihar of PG Department beat Pranav Sharma, Ishan of PG Department smashed Anikat Sharma, Hiteshwar Kesar of PG Department lost to Pushbinder Sharma and Sahil Sharma of PG Department lost to Abhay Kumar Kesar. In best versus best game, Ishan of PG Department registered win over Abhay Kumar Kesar of GDC Reasi.
The matches were officiated by Anil Kumar, Gagan Kumar, Ankush Sharma, Mohammad Israr, Ajeet Singh, Avishesh Sharma, Pooja Sharma, Shivali Bhau, SP Sharma, Sushil Sawhney and PD Singh, Incharge Chess Competition.
The dignitaries present on the occasion were Sumnesh Sharma, Dr Vinod Bakshi, Suman Sharma, Pardeep Sharma, Prof Ashok Kumar, Sudesh Bhagat, Narayani Jamwal, Vinay Manhas, Nirmal Singh (Athletics Coach), Harsimran Singh (Athletics coach), Raj Kumar Bakshi, Gagan Kumar, Vikas Karlopia and Jai Bharat. All the matches were played under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
