Incoherent national narrative

Shiban   Khaibri
At a time when the country is obsessed with the far reaching effects of the diabolical countless acts of mischief on a continuous pattern being done over so many years by our belligerent neighbor and trying to exploit religion and employ falsehood and hate, it is a natural corollary that we in this country, irrespective of political affiliations, should evolve one cohesive irrevocable stand in the national interest. That in many cases, whether in political circles, intellectual circles, media sections or in organizations claiming to protect human rights,  there are narratives and taking up of positions, which inter- alia, depict that the Government of the day was all to blame and that national interests were subservient to the issue of so called violations of those who cared naught for the law and indulged in acts prejudicial to the peace, tranquility and the integrity of the country. There are numerous such instances to quote which among other things, is tantamount to heap insults on the martyrdom of those who kept the country and the countrymen above their own life , let alone their families or any of the worldly material gains, during the freedom movement of this country. In the present contemporary context, those of our brave hearts who defend our borders when we are fast asleep in our cozy homes, those of our lion hearted warriors who have the frozen snow of the glaciers  as floor, as walls and as the home in unbelievable levels of below freezing points and where breathing normally even with slight walking is not that easy  or the scorching deserts where  they brave  intolerable and unbearable heat but never allow to lower their guard to keep our borders well protected and hence the country. They,  while discharging such duties on the borders and even fight the most troublesome and a demeaning type of war within the country known as proxy terror war, offer their supreme sacrifice, should we afford to speak in heterogeneous, incoherent, enemy friendly tone and tenure is what is attempted to be spelt out herein.
In India, everyone knows that this country has been believing in and preaching peace. If we go back to the day we achieved independence, right from that moment the emphasis of Indian leadership has been utilizing our resources for the betterment of our people as once this country called “golden sparrow” was mercilessly looted by Muslim invaders followed by the colonial rule of the British to exploit our resources and human development resulting in reducing India to a very poor and underdeveloped country.  So peace and respecting human values need not be taught to us by outfits like Amnesty International. Why should they arrange selective chest beating only for those who are bent upon undermining the security, integrity and sovereignty of this country? Raising anti national slogans and suicidal acts like maligning armed forces cannot but be termed as sedition. Those politicians and even a selective section of writers and thinkers have no locus- standi in casting aspersions on the possibility of slapping sedition charges on the wrong doers and their accomplices. They call this law as a colonial hangover used against the activists and journalists. There is no one who has been charged under this law, so far,  though many deserve it. There is much more freedom to disagree but must not be at the cost of the interests of the country. No dissent is scuttled by this government, at least.
It is a travesty that to fight this country with one voice, there have emerged different voices with intent to attack the government for the last two and a half years with intensity. The logic calls for employing all means to counter an enemy as that enemy keeps no limits in “inflicting a thousand cuts ” and fight this country with a  “war of a 1000 years”. If for the last 70 years Pakistan has been troubling this country over Kashmir after having usurped more than half of it in 1947-48, and now for the last two months over killing of a terrorist, has been spending money and sending indoctrinated and armed to the teeth terrorists to foment trouble and violence in Kashmir, why should we not open as many fronts as possible, to give moments of restlessness to Pakistan?
The Prime Minister spoke from the ramparts of the Red Fort on Aug15, about the good wishes sent to him  by the people of Baluchistan and PoK, and thanked them for such gesture, beyond this he said nothing but Pakistan Premi Gang  in India could not digest it and came out in support of that country which is responsible for turning Punjab and adjoining areas as most troubled  for a decade, along with but intensely  followed by what we have been seeing in Kashmir since 1989-90 till date , not to speak of other areas and places across the country with acts of terror. We have the menace of counterfeit currency from that country, we have drugs and narcotics problem from that side rendering our youth vulnerable to fall prey and spoil their youth and utility for the family and the society. We have direct interference in our internal affairs by their envoys whilst sitting in the country, inviting traitors over how Kashmir could be kept simmering and how long and with more teeth with radicalized Wahabi and Salafi religious passions. We have their Prime Minister Nawaz Sharief openly exhorting people in Gulam Kashmir to fight for “Kashmir   Banega Pakistan”  but all these acts look to this Pakistani Premi Gang as perfectly nice and to the extent of  crying for such belligerent country , which as its political and religious policy, is  incessantly troubling India , these leaders must object to the Indian PM even to say Baluchistan. A person of the stature of Salman Khursheed , former External Affairs  Minister projecting himself as patriotic secular, rebuffs the PM as speaking “uncivilized words”.
A former Union Minister and a prominent leader of the Congress, Mani Shanker Aiyer during his visit to Pakistan exhorts  Pakistan to “Please oust them and install us” because   “so long as the NDA Government was in power, friendship between the two countries would never materialize”.  Such a learned man , otherwise , forgot that  Pakistan was no super Election  Commission to install his Government and oust a legally and constitutionally elected Government, in India. Similarly we have seen how Baatla encounter and Ishrat Jan encounter were politicized to the benefit of the perpetrators of terror. We also see how sincerely are those in the state opposition to bring about peace and order and prevent unfortunate civilian and security forces’ casualties and injuries in Kashmir. These leaders must forthwith stop playing blame game and totally avoid, just at the drop of a hat, their insistence to talk to the Hurriyat “leaders” and Pakistan for a “lasting political solution” of Kashmir. Please note that the so called “anger” or some sort of consternation associated with the youth as reason for pelting stones as a religious duty on security forces, is far from the reality. And, angry for what? Cannot the Police engage those   who take to the gun to aim at the state apparatus, propagate radicalized things totally out of context in modern times   like Jihad etc against their own country, own people, own law and order apparatus and exhort people to join outlawed outfits to wage war against the state , issue diktats and kill security personnel and innocent people ? If for the sake of argument majority community can justify in getting increasingly radicalized, why should the minority communities also not follow suit, what shall result there from – A Syria, an Iraq, an Egypt, an Afghanistan,  or in other words just debris, rubble, destruction , innocent children becoming the main victims? Due to reports as many as 17 lac children are in one way or the other, directly intensely hit by the ISIS fighting in Syria and Iraq alone.  Therefore, please save Kashmir.
Kashmir unrest is the sum total of Pakistan +Radicalism +Separatists+ inflow of illegal money. People are getting paid to throw stones and the umbrella of “even children of 10 and 14 were not spared by the Modi Government” as charged by a young Congress leader in the Parliament while discussing Kashmir just to score political points, was replied by the CM Mehbooba Sayeed in a joint Press Conference with the union Home Minister in Srinagar, ” Had the children gone to army bunkers and posts  to buy toffees or milk?” Those who pelt stones   and attack Police posts and personnel “cannot be Satyagrahis , they are aggressors” .  Parents and elders in homes have to keep a tight rein on their loved ones but misled in the name of (wrong interpretation of ) the religion. Hafiz Sayeed, Masood Azhar, Indrabi, Geelani, Salah-ud-Din etc cannot be their fate makers.   The leaders, intellectuals, writers, all have to talk in one voice, with one narrative,  for India and Indians. There is no alternative.
