PM says he is champion of Dalits, tribals

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today projected himself as champion of Dalits and tribals, claiming that opponents whom he described as “self-appointed guardians”  were trying to create tension as they didn’t like that “Modi is with Dalits and devotes himself  to tribals”.

Broaching the topic of existing social imbalance and criticism on his silence on these issues till now, the Prime Minister admitted that “as far as some incidents are concerned — they need to be  condemned.

”There is no place for those in a civilised society –law and order is a state subject. Some are  selectively picking issues and blaming Modi. I don’t know what purpose this serves, but it hurts  the interest of the country,” he said slamming rivals.

He was speaking during his second exclusive interview to an Indian television channel CNN-IBN this year. During his 90-minute interview to Network 18’s Group Editor Rahul Joshi, he spoke on wide-ranging issues, including UP elections, black money and challenges to India’s economy. (AGENCIES)
