Notorious thieves arrested, stolen property recovered

JAMMU, Sept 11: Bakshi Nagar police under ‘Operation Meghdoot’ has achieved a major success in apprehending two notorious burglars with the help of CCTV camera footage, thereby solving many sensational theft cases of temples and houses in Jammu City.
This was stated by Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Jammu Dr Sunil Gupta while interacting with media persons here at Bakshi Nagar police station.
SSP stated that a special team was constituted, which apprehended a notorious thief, who has been identified as Mehraj Din alias Javed, son of Mohammad Ramzan of District Doda. He had committed a broad day light burglary in the house at Rehari Colony and had decamped golden ornaments and cash in the month of May 2016, SSP said, adding that on his disclosure, stolen property was recovered along with tool of offence.
Secondly, a notorious thief namely Sunil Kumar alias Gorkha, son of Rishi Raj Khatri of Alwar Rajasthan was also arrested by the said team within 36 hours of the theft with the help of CCTV footage and cash worth Rs 6,140 was recovered along with tool of offence, SSP maintained.
Dr Gupta stated that the said accused had also admitted to have committed several thefts in temples across the city, adding that the accused was committing thefts in city since two and half years.
However, the investigations are going on in both the cases and more arrests and recoveries are likely to be made in near future, he added.
Police team led by Incharge Sarwal police post SI Kali Charan made the arrest under the supervision of SHO Bakshi Nagar Inspector Ashwani Sharma, SDPO West Nikhil Rasgotra and SP City Dr Vinod Kumar.
