LONDON, Sept 30: Singer Nelly Furtado says she never yearned for a celebrity’s life, but tasted the pressures that came with fame just after the release of her first single ‘I am like a bird’.
The 33-year-old, whose debut single came out in 2000, said that she felt pressure to succeed in the very crazy showbiz world following the success of the track, reported Contactmusic.
“I never wanted to be a celebrity. I was completely aware that when my first single went crazy this was my big opportunity,” said Furtado.
“I was a 21-year-old child who had come from nothing and I was in this very fast, very crazy world. I was like, ‘Okay, what happens now?’ And there was a sense of, ‘Am I going to do something different with my life? What am I going to do?’,” she added.
Furtado took a self-imposed six-year hiatus in 2006 after getting “burnt out”, but last year she got her “life energy” back after helping a four-year-old girl, who had been adopted, into education during a visit to Kenya. (PTI)
