Army trekking expedition flagged-in

JAMMU, Sept 20: Trekking expedition taken up by Army from Kishtwar to Padam Gompa was flagged-in at Chanderkot by General Officer Commanding, Delta Force.
The expedition started from Kishtwar on April 30 and culminated at Padam Gompa on September 17. Spanning over 15 days the team scaled tough mountains of Pirpanjal and Zanskar Ranges.
Army trekkers endured, high through cold wind and snowfall to cross over to Padam Valley to crossover to Kargil.
A team of one officer and 12 jawans participated in the trekking expedition along Gulabgarh-Chishot-Machail-Sumcham-Khachay-Phangso-Riwa-Umas-La Ating-Padam, covering a total distance of approx 155 kms in 15 days. During the course, the trekkers scaled the heights ranging from 3500 m to 5300 m at Umasi-Lal-pass on Zanskar Range.
The event was to promote cultural bond between Chenab and Padam Valley and also to foster the qualities of camaraderie, spirit of adventure and preservation of environment.
Speaking on the occasion, General Officer Commanding, Delta Force complemented the trekkers for successfully scaling the difficult heights.
