JAMMU, Sept 29: The visiting National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) team called on the Chief Minister, Mehbooba Mufti here last evening.
The team comprises former Vice Chancellor, Goa University, Prof Dileep N Deobagkar, former Vice Chancellor, Dr Ambedkar Law University, Chennai, Prof V Vijayakumar, former Vice Chancellor Mahatma Gandhi University, Nalgonda, Prof Katta Narsimaha Reddy, former Dean, faculty of English & Foreign Language, Gandhigram Rural Institute, Prof A Joseph Dorairaj, Professor, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar, Dr Renu Bhardwaj, Professor, Head & Dean, faculty of Commerce, Banaras Hindu University, Varanasi, Prof A R Tripathi, former Secretary, Tamil Nadu Engineering Admission, Govt of Tamil Nadu, Dr V Rhymend Uthariaraj, Vice Chancellor, Uttarakhand Open University, Haldwani, Prof Nageshwar Rao, Professor, Berhampur University, Prof Apargita Chowdhury and Professor, the Maharaja Sayajirao, University of Baroda, Prof Krishna Chandra Tiwari.
Also present on the occasion were Minister for Education, Naeem Akhtar, Vice Chancellors of different universities of the State, Professors and Deans.
Interacting with the NAAC team members, the Chief Minister said that the Government is making all efforts to enhance the standards of higher education in the State. She said the Government is engaged in reorienting and upgrading the education system to make it an “enabler” to help increase the employability of the youth.
The establishment of institutions like the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) will lead to a definitive improvement in the quality of professional education in our State, Mehbooba said.
The NAAC members also shared their experiences with respect to the higher education scenario across the country.
