State Baseball Championship gets underway

SRINAGAR, Oct 1: The seventh edition of Jammu and Kashmir State Baseball Championship began here today with the matches in the boys’ category getting underway at the Islamia College of Science and Commerce. The girls’ event would start on October 6 at Government College for Women, Maulana Azad Road here.
Fida Hussain Fidvi, general secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Baseball Association (JKBA) told Excelsior that the tournament would culminate on October 10 with the final of the girls’ category being held on that date. He said the closing ceremony would be held at the Government College for Women adding that the boys’ category event would culminate on October 4.
“The tournament is being held in connection with silver jubilee celebrations of Amateur Baseball Federation of India. In the boys’ category 16 teams are taking part while as the number of teams in girls’ category is 14. A 16 member squad each would be selected for boys’ and girls’ categories which would represent the State in the upcoming senior and junior national championship,” said Fida.
