JAMMU, Oct 2: On the eve of Senior Citizens’ Day, Retired Officers’ Forum (ROF) has appealed the State Government to enact legal measures on the pattern of ‘The maintenance and Welfare of Parents and Senior Citizens Act, 2007’ passed by the Central Government.
In a meeting held here under the chairmanship of Dr JK Sharma, the Forum members said that the breakdown of joint-family system in modern times has lead to the neglect of elderly people and therefore, their welfare should be secured by legal provisions urgently.
The meeting also pointed out that the process of re-verification of LPG connections and cap on the number of cylinders has put the senior citizens to a lot of harassment and inconvenience. The forum members demanded to raise the number of subsidized cylinders to minimum 12 per annum.
