LEH, Oct 13: Hemis, Chemday and Korzok Monasteries today expressed concern over recent incident in which monks allegedly used abusive language against Hill Council Chairman, Dr Sonam Dawa.
Addressing a joint press conference, Nawang Othsal of Hemis Monastery flanked by Nawang Chosphel of Chemday Monastery, Nawang Padam of Korzok Monastery and Nawang Gyatso said, “we never intended to create such a situation. We just expressed our dismay over Hill Council Chairman’s non-cooperation during Naropa Festival. If some monks have used any abusive language against him we express regret over it”.
“Prior to such situation we invited Dr Dawa to a dinner party to solve the issue amicably but he failed to turn up thus monks felt very upset and dismayed over his attitude”, they said, adding “we have been told that Chairman and others were attending a meeting at Srinagar when Gyalwang Drukpa entered Leh but Dr Dawa should have sent his representative to receive Gyalwang Drukpa”.
“We never faced such a problem during past six years. Dr Dawa should not have behaved differently when Ladakh was celebrating a historical festival attended by lakhs of people from different parts of world”, they said, adding “during the grand celebration of Naropa, Dr Dawa didn’t give his speech and this was another disrespect to the function”.
Asking Hill Council Chairman to look after all sections of the society uniformly, they said, “if he continues to work as dictator then we wonder what will happen to the future of Ladakh”.
