SRINAGAR, Oct 14: A House Committee of the Legislative Council today called for conducting surprise check of pharmacies, hospitals and sample collection centers to curb the menace of spurious drugs.
The Committee constituted by the Chairman, Legislative Council during the last budget session of the State Legislature to look into the menace of fake and spurious drugs, met here today under the chairpersonship of MLC, Dr Shehnaz Ganai.
Legislators, Dr Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri), Naresh Kumar Gupta, Yasir Reshi and Saif-ud-Din Bhat were present at the meeting. The members gave their suggestions to make the committee more vibrant in dealing with the menace of spurious drugs.
Threadbare discussions were held on the objectives of the Committee including the State Government’s Drug Policy and the measures to be taken to make it more effective. The Committee observed that the Drug Policy needs to be tailored to suit the needs of the people of the State so that they get better health care facilities.
The Committee also discussed the procedure to be adopted for procurement of quality drugs in the State.
The Legislators asked the officers of LC Secretariat to seek proper replies on Drug Policy, CAG report and other relevant records from the concerned departments within a week’s time and furnish the same to the Committee.
Dr Shehnaz Ganai sought full cooperation of the members as well as officers of Council Secretariat so that the targets of the Committee are achieved accordingly.
