JAMMU, Oct 14: The World Standards Day was celebrated today by Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS), Jammu office by organizing a seminar.
The seminar was inaugurated by Amit Sharma, Managing Director, J&K State Industrial Development Corporation.
In his inaugural address, Amit Sharma said that the theme of this year’s celebrations “Standards Build Trust” indeed is very apt since it truly coincides with the principles and concepts of Standardization. He said that Bureau of Indian Standards has been established for harmonious development of the activities of standardization, marking and quality certification of goods and for related matters and thus building the trust.
“With trust, businesses and consumers embark on a lifelong journey towards solutions that will meet their mutual expectations – productivity, performance and quality of life”, he added.
Praveen Khanna, Scientist and Head, J&K Branch Office, Jammu, in his welcome address said that every year on October 14 World Standards Day is celebrated to pay tribute to the efforts of thousands of experts world over who collaborate with International Organization for Standardization (ISO), International Electro Technical Commission (IEC) and International Telecom Union (ITU).
The technical seminar organized by BIS was chaired by AK Garg, Chief Engineer, CPWD, Jammu. Garg conducted the technical session in which presentation were made by Annil Suri, Managing Director, Tawai Arc Electrodes Pvt Ltd, Jammu, BM Sharma, Associate Vice President, Singer (India) Ltd, Jammu and Arun Kumar Datt, Quality Assurance Manager, IFCA Bottling Co Ltd, Jammu.
JM Khanna read the message received from ISO, IEC and ITU and proposed vote of thanks. The programme was attended by industry, BIS licenses, consumers, etc.
