GCW Parade retains Wrestling title; GDC Rajouri, MAM College enter next round in Cricket

JAMMU, Oct 20: Inter-Collegiate Championships in the disciplines of free style wrestling and cricket, being organized by Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu, were played, here today.
In Inter-Collegiate Free Style Wrestling Championship for women, GCW Parade retained the title by securing 20 points.
In 48 kg, Kanchan Devi of GCW Parade and Ritu Sharma of PG Department clinched gold and silver medals respectively, while Prabha Devi of GDC Akhnoor and Narmata Katoch of GDC Gandhi Nagar shared bronze medal.
In 53 kg, Yasika Jamwal of GCW Parade and Shivangi Jamwal of PG Department bagged gold and silver medals respectively, while Urmila Devi of GDC Akhnoor and Shoba Sharma of GCW Gandhi Nagar shared bronze medal.
In 55 kg, Barkha Devi of GCW Gandhi Nagar, Rabia Rana of GCW Parade and T Sering Chonzam of PG Department clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In 58 kg, Rinu Devi of PG Department, Prakashi Sharma of GCW Gandhi Nagar and Neha Yadav of GCW Parade bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In 60 kg, Juhi Charak of GCW Parade and Nidhi of GCW Gandhi Nagar bagged gold and silver medals respectively, whereas in 63 kg, Jaspreet Kaur of GCW Parade, Bhavna Sharma of PG Department and Hem Lata of GCW Gandhi Nagar bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
In 69 kg, Sheetal Sharma of GCW Parade and Muskaan Aryan of GCW Gandhi Nagar bagged gold, silver and bronze medals respectively, whereas in 75 kg, Shivangi Sharma of PG Department, Renu Devi of GCW Gandhi Nagar and Mamta Devi of GCW Parade clinched gold, silver and bronze medals respectively.
The matches were officiated by Bansi Lal, Mulkh Raj, Sahil Sharma and Jai Bharat.
Meanwhile, in Inter-Collegiate Cricket Championship, GDC Rajouri and Government MAM College outplayed rivals in their respective matches and entered into the next stage.
In the first match, GDC Rajouri smashed GDC Surankote by 6 wickets. Electing to bat first, GDC Surankote made paltry 76 runs by losing 9 wickets in 17 overs. Basit was the top scorer with 28 runs, while Sajad and Bilal scored 15 and 11 runs respectively.
For GDC Rajouri side, Amir was the pick of the bowler with 3 wickets, while Aditya made 2 runs. Sahil, Iftiaz and Sajid clinched one wicket each.
In reply, GDC Rajouri chased the target in 8.4 overs by losing 4 wickets. Vikas was the highest scorer with 40 runs, while Sumit made 12 runs.
For GDC Surankote side, Tabir, Shafiq, Mukhtar and Javed clinched one wicket each.
In the second match, Government MAM College registered win over GDC Mendhar by 7 wickets.
Batting first, GDC Mendhar made 74 runs by losing all the wickets in 16.5 overs. Afaq made 24 runs, while Murtaza chipped in 18 runs.
For Government MAM College side, Yogesh and Rohit took 3 wickets each, while Nipun scalped one wicket.
In the second inning, Government MAM College chased the target in 9.1 overs by losing 3 wickets. Sagar was the top scorer with 38 runs, while Jagjeet and Nipun made 9 runs each.
For GDC Mendhar side, Afaq scalped 2 wickets, while Yasir Mehmood took one wicket.
The matches were officiated by Saleem-ur-Rehman, Sadiq Hussain, Raj Kumar Bakshi, Mohan Lal Dub and Vijay Kumar as umpires, while Vinod maintained the scoreboard.
The Championships were being organized under the supervision of Prof Avtar Singh Jasrotia, Director, Directorate of Sports and Physical Education, University of Jammu.
